STEPHEN D. PHILLIPS, managing partner at the Phillips Law Offices in Chicago (www.phillipslawoffices.com), will be installed as the 60th President of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) on Friday, June 7, 2013, at its annual convention. Phillips received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1981 and his law degree in 1985 from Loyola University School of Law. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar shortly thereafter. Pradaxa Lawsuits Consolidated in Illinois

The mounting number of Pradaxa lawsuits led to a consolidation of all the federally filed mass cases.

Allvoices, an online media outlet, reported in August 2012 that the Joint Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, a panel of federal judges, consolidated all current and future Pradaxa cases filed in federal courts to be heard by Judge David R. Herndon, the chief judge of the Southern District of Illinois. What the cases shared in common was alleged damages such as bleeding and other injuries caused by Pradaxa. In 2011, more adverse reports and deaths were reported for Pradaxa than all other monitored drugs, according to USA Today. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) received reports of 542 deaths and 3,781 adverse effects linked to Pradaxa. [Read more...]

What is Pradaxa’s History with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)?

The relationship between Pradaxa and the FDA began with approval for a specified use — as a drug prescribed for patients who had irregular heartbeats (arterial fibrillation) to prevent strokes and blood clots. The FDA issued approval in October 2010, based on a clinical trial that compared Pradaxa with warfarin (Coumadin), another anticoagulant drug that had the same use.
