An Illinois Law Firm that Knows Pradaxa Problems
Fighting for those injured by defective drugs
The pharmaceutical industry is notoriously competitive. Manufacturers are constantly jockeying to be the first to release the next big drug. Research and development costs quickly mount for new formulas. And the pressure to see a quick return on that investment all too often leads to drugs hitting the market with unknown, undisclosed or not fully appreciated side effects. When drug companies make decisions or cut corners and jeopardize the safety of consumers, the law holds them accountable. As Chicago drug liability attorneys, we at the Phillips Law Offices have helped injured individuals and their families recover compensation from pharmaceutical companies for more than six decades. The reputation for success that we earned during that time allows us to be effective and respected advocates for consumers throughout Illinois.
What is the problem with Pradaxa?
What is Pradaxa? It is the first new anticoagulant drug to receive FDA approval in decades. But following its release, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began to receive reports of serious Pradaxa bleeding risks in certain patients. Some of these events led to hospitalization, permanent disability and even death. While bleeding problems are a potential issue with any anticoagulant treatment, a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology indicated that serious bleeding issues were far more common in patients taking Pradaxa than those taking warfarin. Some dangers have also surfaced regarding Pradaxa and surgery.
Bleeding problems and other Pradaxa dangers can range from nose bleeds and heavy menstrual bleeding to internal hemorrhaging of the kidneys, brain and gastrointestinal tract. Serious hemorrhaging has been especially prevalent in patients over the age of 75. Although Pradaxa retains FDA approval, the inquiry into the drug’s effects is ongoing in both the United States and abroad as reports of death, hospitalization and injury due to serious hemorrhaging in Pradaxa patients continue to surface. If you or someone you love has suffered from Pradaxa complications, a Pradaxa lawyer may be necessary to protect your rights.
The Illinois drug liability lawyers of the Phillips Law Offices have followed this situation closely since reports of Pradaxa problems began in 2010, shortly after the drug gained FDA approval. We have been effective over the past two years in pursuing compensation for deaths and injuries stemming from Pradaxa side effects. But our record of success in pharmaceutical liability cases extends over the full 65-year life of our firm.
